New DelhiMonday, November 13, 2006:In an attempt to restore peace after the recent violence in Upper Assam, Centre will hold talks with the representatives of the United Liberation Front of Assam.

ULFA's peace initiator Indira Goswami will meet National Security Advisor MK Narayanan on Monday.

Goswami will be accompanied by Rebati Phukan, another rebel mediator and a childhood friend of ULFA commander-in-chief Paresh Baruah.

The central government had announced a major counter-insurgency offensive against the ULFA, after two powerful explosions in Guwahati killed 14 people and wounded 40 others last weekend.

Police in Assam have blamed the blasts on the ULFA but the group has not claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Peace talks with ULFA representatives had broken down after New Delhi called off a six-week ceasefire blaming the outfit of stepping up attacks and extortions on September 24.
