Monday, October 23, 2006 (Srinagar):

The Army has instituted a court of inquiry over the custodial death of a teenaged boy in Jammu and Kashmir.

Protests have been held in the Pakherpora area of Char-e-Sharif over the death of a youngster allegedly in the Army custody.

The National Conference has demanded a judicial probe into the incident.

Mohd Maqbool Dar was taken into custody on Friday from the Charar-e-Sharif area. According to reports, he died at the Nagam army camp on Saturday under mysterious circumstances.

The Army says Dar had developed some medical problem during detention and was rushed for treatment. But residents of his village accuse the Army of killing him during interrogation.
