Sunday, October 22, 2006 (New Delhi):

Every year Diwali leaves behind piles of residue of firecrackers, trash of burnt papers and ashes, considerably adding to the polluted levels of New Delhi.

This year, too, it was no different as the morning after the Diwali the residents woke up to a thick haze. The smoke of crackers cast a foggy shadow.

This created a distorted visibility for all those driving vehicles and also led to uneasiness for those who suffer from respiratory ailments.

Some residents even complained about the failure of administration to put a stop to the bursting of crackers till late night.

Officially, the bursting of crackers was restricted till 10 in the night and those breaking the rules were liable to be booked by the police.
