The UN's top human rights official, Louise Arbour, is due in Sudan amid growing pressure on the government to end fighting in the Darfur region.
It comes as campaigners prepare to hold mass rallies across the US calling for an end to killings in Darfur.

in the month of April, US President George W Bush endorsed the rallies, saying "genocide" in Sudan was unacceptable.

About 200,000 people have died and some two million have been left homeless since violence began in Darfur in 2003.

A deadline for the Sudanese government and rebel groups to reach agreement at African Union-brokered peace talks in Nigeria expires on last Sunday.
