According to a report from Bangalore on June 3: BJP president Rajnath Singh on Saturday said Rahul Mahajan had expressed a desire to work in the party following the death of his father Pramod Mahajan but the party was yet to take a decision on that.

"He (Rahul) had indeed expressed a desire to work in the party after the death of Pramodji. That was under consideration. So far, we have not taken a decision," he told reporters in response to questions on the sidelines of a function.

Asked if the party viewed the Rahul episode as a conspiracy, Singh said, "What view can the party have? Police is conducting enquiry. I don't want to talk anything about it."

BJP washes its hands

According to another report from New Delhi on June 3: Embarrassed by Rahul Mahajan's hospitalisation after a party, the BJP on Saturday sought to wash its hands off the controversy saying it was a tragedy in the family of its late leader Pramod Mahajan and it had nothing to do with it.

Seeking to wriggle out of the situation emerging from reports linking the junior Mahajan's lifestyle with the party's values, BJP spokesperson Sushma Swaraj said, "It is tragedy of the family. The party has nothing to do with it. It can happen in any family."

She was talking to reporters after a meeting at leader of Opposition L K Advani's residence, which discussed among other things the issue of the President returning the Office of Profit Bill to the Parliament.

Swaraj claimed that the meeting did not discuss the Rahul Mahajan issue.
